Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka is an American-British sitarist and musician. She was the first and youngest woman to win a British House of Commons Award. Anoushka Shankar is a rising star on sitar music. Indian sitar. She is Ravi Shankar's student as well as his daughter. She was born 1982 in London. Her childhood years were split between London and New Delhi. Her debut performance was at New Delhi when she was thirteen years old. Then she relocated into Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha was only 17 years old, has had an extremely successful recording and performing career. Her father has accompanied her on numerous occasions for some time. In 1998, she debuted Anourag as her first album as a solo artist. It was followed by Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album a year later. She has performed at most important venues across the world. Anoushka Shankar's work isn't limited to performing in music. In 2002 she published the book Bapi The Love of My Live this is a pictorial biography which gives a special honor to her late father Ravi Shankar. Also, in films in 2003 she was in the movie Dance Like a Man where she portrays a young Bharat Natyam performer. Anoushka is continuing to advance in her professional career, and we can expect many new things that will be coming from this talented woman. Anoushka was a frequent traveler and spent lots of traveling between London and Delhi in her early years. Later, she moved to California for high school. Anoushka Shankar began her musical studies at age nine. A few years later, she made her music debut with the sitar Delhi at her father's 75th birthday celebration. Anoushka performed with her father throughout his global tour, gained an incredible number of experiences. In her teenage years she played at Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD and recorded alongside George Harrison. She was the youngest and only female recipient of the House of Commons Shield awarded by the British Parliament for her musicianship and talent as an outstanding musician from the Asian Arts.
